Marker Awareness Workshop 'Calling The Shots'

Dear Members,

MARKER AWARENESS WORKSHOP ‘CALLING THE SHOTS’

Further to the agreement made at the July 2024 Committee Meeting and subsequently published in the meeting minutes to invite England Squash to run a Marker Awareness Workshop here at the club, they have agreed to run the workshop on Monday 04 November 2024 in the clubhouse from between 4.00–8.15pm, depending on which workshops are delivered.

The first half of the workshop is presentation based, covering the basic elements of being a marker, including:

• The rules of squash.
• Marker calls.
• Scoresheet recording.
• Match Management (Code of Conduct, illness, injury and blood).

The second half is all about interference at various levels of squash and encouraging discussion about specifics that attendees may have struggled with.

By attending the course you will:

• Understand how to officiate within the current rules.
• Gain a fresh perspective and practical advice on how to improve
your refereeing knowledge and own game.
• Confidently resolve decisions without interference and influence.
• Understand when to impose ‘code of conduct’ by giving let’s,
strokes or warnings, and how to effectively deal with unacceptable
conduct (not just here at the club, but when representing the club
externally and at other clubs & tournaments).
• Learn the correct terminology and standard match announcements.
• Enhance player’s and club reputation for upholding marking and
refereeing best practice.

Subject to numbers attending there is an opportunity to run two workshops consecutively, a shorter workshop (1hr 30min) for juniors (10–13 years) and beginners, and a standard workshop (2hr) for more advanced and experienced players.

The workshops will be available FREE for current members and please feel free to invite friends and members of other clubs at a cost of £5 each.
To register for the workshop please email, text or WhatsApp me on 07880543858 before Sunday 20 October 2024.
